- Visit San Diego City College, where The Grove will have a vendor table at the First Annual San Diego City Book Fair promoting local writers and booksellers as well as reaching out to prominent national and international authors and artists, particularly our friends and neighbors in Mexico. This year's fair and future fairs will also showcase the arts and music as well as literature of all sorts.
- Brown Bag Writing Practice Group Every Tuesday 12 - 1pm FREE with RSVP

- Knit-In for Komen Sunday 22 October 11am - 6pm $5
- Drop by the Grove any time Sunday to knit pink scarves or a panel for one of Judy Thacker's awesome free-form throws. All pieces will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and sold at a fund-raiser auction, with all proceeds going towards breast cancer research & education. Each garment you work on will bear your name and you can dedicate it to anyone you know who has been touched by breast cancer. All pink yarns used for the projects will be offered at a 20% discount. We'll be serving pink lemonade and pink cupcakes throughout the day. Please call early to reserve your seat!

- Basic Sock Sunday October 8: 11 - 3pm $25
- Learn the basics of knitting a sock from the top-down, turning the heel, and seaming the toe with Kitchener stitch. (Instructor David Kraft) Materials available for purchase: sport, DK or worsted weight yarn (in a solid, light color); compatible needles; stitch markers; tapestry needle. Skill Level: Easy
- Beginner's Scarf Wednesdays October 11 & 18: 6:30-9pm $40 for two class sessions
- If you haven't learned yet, it's time! We'll teach you to cast on and knit during Part One. Part Two: return to complete your scarf and fringe it if you wish. Wear it home! We are lucky enough to have David Kraft, one of the few teachers in San Diego
capable of teaching this advanced class, to guide you through this amazing project.

- Finishing Sunday October 15: 11 - 3pm $25
- Learn to pick up stitches for button bands & collars, cast off with 3 needles, and sew seams flawlessly. A must for those eager to graduate from scarves to sweaters! (Instructor David Kraft) Materials: 2 swatches knit in Stockinette stitch at least 4"x 4" and preferably 6" x 6", and 2 similar swatches with live stitches (i.e., don't cast off) knit in the same color with compatible needles (double points work best), tape measure, tapestry needle, calculator, paper & pencil, one skein of contrast color yarn. Skill Level: Easy
- You Spin Me Right 'Round Sunday October 15: 1 - 4pm $25
- Take it one step further. This class will give you the techniques needed for crocheting in the round: treble (triple) crochet, increase, decrease and shaping. Bring home a small evening bag from this class using granny squares and/or flowers. A free hat pattern will be included for you to work on at home. (Instructor Melody Hufford) Materials available for purchase: worsted weight yarn, crochet hook size F, G or H. Bring tape measure, paper & pencil. Skill Level: Easy (Know the basics before this class: foundation chain, single and double crochet.)
- Crochet an edge around it Thursday October 19: 7 - 9pm $15
- Special workshop for knitters and crocheters! Whether it's smoothing the dubious edges of that first scarf, embellishing a sweater or baby hat, or making lace for pillowcases, this class will go over several stitches used in edges. (Instructor Melody Hufford) Materials: If you have a project that needs to be edged, bring it with you. Otherwise, please prepare ahead of time four swatches to play with, measuring at minimum 4" x 4", crochet hook in appropriate size. Skill Level: Beginner (no experience necessary)

Ball Pendants October 22: 12 noon - 4pm
$35- Using a bit of feltable wool, create your pendant shape and then embellish using bits of colorful glass and sparkling Swarovski crystals for an enchanting necklace. (Instructor Marcia Decoster) Materials available on the day of class from instructor. Skill Level: Easy

- For knitters wishing to learn the European way to knit by "picking" rather than "throwing" the yarn. Considered by many to be faster than US method of knitting. Also excellent method for lefties. Bobbi Bear Saturdays October 21, 28 & November
4: 1 - 4pm $60 for 3 sessions (includes pattern)- Come see our adorable store sample! Learn how to make Blue Sky Alpaca's Baby Bobbi Bear from one of their scrumptious yarns. - Knitted Ring & Bracelet Saturday October 28: 12-2pm $20
- Learn how to knit these simple accessories with colored art wire and beads. They make wonderfulk gifts, look complicated, and are incredibly easy! - Knit Hat Sunday October 29: 11-2pm $25
- For beginning knitters wishing to learn to purl, decrease, and seam, this simple hat class is a must. Also learn to edge your hat with a simple crochet stitch to ensure a good fit. This one is so easy, most participants wear their hats home from class! Materials: bulky yarn, 24" circular needle OR 14" straight needles in a size compatible with yarn selection; tape measure, tapestry needle, crochet hook (size G, H, or J), scissors, paper, pen. Scarf Sunday October 29: 2-5pm $25- This knitted scarf looks handwoven, and the interplay of colors as the pattern changes direction is amazing. Learn how to make short rows on this simple yet spectacular project. Materials: 1-2 balls of worsted weight yarn (multicolors work great), US #10 straight needles, tapestry needle, scissors. Class Cancellation Policy -- No Exceptions
In the event the Grove needs to cancel a class due to lack of participants, the Grove will issue a full refund. Participants who are unable to attend as planned must notify the Grove within five days of the class in order to receive a refund. Otherwise the class fee is forfeited. Fees cannot be applied to future classes.
